Day 3:Gvozd

Today we were soppused to have a full day of work. But the rain had other plans. It started raining last night and rained ALL day long. So, we didn't have to go out gardening this morning:). But I didn't hear anyone complaining about that. We spent the afternoon at the Duncokret center. We got to meet a few of the kids...not many because aparently they don't like to come out in the rain. Everything has preety much turned to mud. It's kinda crazy, but fun! Just be prepared for me to gone home with terribly muddy shoes and clothes! They'll be real fun to wash!!!
The kids here are amazing. They no English so well that you can barely here they have an accent at all.
They are really fun to play with too. We have made plans for the rest of the week and have arts and crafts and stuff set up for them.
We will spend the rest of the next week and half working in the orchard from 10-2 and working with the kids from 2-7. Ofciurse lunch is somewhere in between. We are all assigned tasks each day which we know from the chart. My group has cooking duty tommorow and we are going to attempt and get up by 7:30 and get everything ready. We actually have decent food because we get to cook it.
Today we went to the market and got some candy and cookies and snacks. Luckily they broke my 500 Kn and one of the kids from Suncokret came along and helped translate.
Foreign countries are cool. The only thing I really miss is my computer and full cell phone use. Oh, and a full bathroom and clean feet!! Which will not happen for the next 2 weeks because the showers are like the ones from a riding place back home.
Ohhh and one of the girls from last years ISV program came last night and was telling us all about the adventure tour today. It sounds awesome! She said you also got to go either sky diving or paragliding if you paid like 50$ extra. So, I would do be doing the sky diving! She also added that 6 people ended up in the emergency room on her tour. One crashed their bike of a clif and one fell and busted up a knee. It sounds interesting. But she did add that it was a record for ISV. But she said that the tour was amazing and definetely worth the amount of money spent on the trip!

Gvozd: Day 2

Bok! Atleast I think that's how you say hello in Croatian. Croatia is amazing! It is a beautiful place with tons of goregous scenery. But in the area we are in, the people have horrible living conditions and not much to do at all. Our place is okay. We have two inside showers and twin beds(with mattresses).
Today we have just had a free day. We walked some trails and explored about. Then we had our orientation and we will be going to eat dinner at the town cafe in a little while.
Oh yea, yall will get a good laugh out of this! All Croatians eat is bread and cheese. I have never seen so much in my life. We have bread at every meal. That's what we ate for breakfast this morning. Bread and cheese?
Im very toted of bread and cheese!
Tommorows when the fun part will start. We get to go clean up the orchard untill 2 and then we go to the Suncokrer center and spend some time getting to know the kids.
It's crazy how people can live like this. They litterally use outdoor showers and composting toilets everyday! It's crazy!
Well, I wrote this whole post on my phone, so I'm not sure how it's gonna look or if there's typos. But atleast it's an update:)

Drunk Pilots and Slamming Doors! WORD!

Well...today has been intresting to say the least. We arrived at the B'ham airport to catch our 8 am flight to Charlotte, NC on time and all was cool. Plans for New York that afternoon were being made and it was all cool. We boarded the plane and were preparing to take a peaceful seista during the flight. About the time that everyone had just got all settled all in an announcment came on that said we all had to deplane because someone had accused a crew member of beign drunk.?. What the hell? They all looked fine to me. But, anywho, we deplaned and waited to here what was up. A few minutes later (like thirty), security came to breathalize the crew and send them off for screenings. All the while, all of us passengers are sitting in the terminal trying to decipher who had accused the crew members of being drunk. That bastard!! They had just caused all of us to miss connecting flights and wake up at the crack of dawn for noghting. Bleh! A few minutes later a little old lady was wheeled off the plane and her little old husband followed behind, slowly limping along. Were they the accuses? How dare they? Do they even know what drunk looks like? They are WAY too old. I mean, come on people! With no one knowing for sure who the accuser was, the verdict was settled that it was the little old couple. Those stupid, clueless old people! UGH! It took those security gaurds what seemed like half a day to screen the crew members and we missed our connecting flight in Charlotte. So much for getting to New York at 2 and exploring for the day. BUT...it was all cool. We had alot of excitement to keep us entertained for the time being.
Three hours later we finally boarded, with the same crew, if I might add. So, I guess the verdict was that they weren't drunk. We got all settled in again and I was still debating whether or not to attempt and get a small nap in when there was a very loud BOOM. Jeeshhh...Now what's wrong? They were having trouble getting the door closed on the plane? What the crap, dude? This is not cool. (Ohh and I forgot to mention that the plane was about the size of a freakin hot air baloon. I could barely breathe in it. AND it was ice cold!) They announced that they were going to have to get maintanence to come out and fix the door and for us to be pateint with them. Luckily, a few minutes and several slammings later, they got the door shut. I kinda think that the drunk pilot might have duck taped it?? But, hey, that's cool. As long as we were going to finally leave in that tiny, freezing plane. At that point, any previous thoughts of a siesta were forgotten and I decided to chill and read my book for the rest of the flight.
Luckily, the rest of the day has been fairly chill and nothing too exciting has happened in the last couple of hours, THANK ALIEN! If all goes as planned, we will be in Big Apple at 8 pm tonight! Finally!
WORD!!! Ever heard of a drunk pilot. Crazy old people.

*Test*

Test...test...testing..testing.... Just kidding! I'm not that lame.
I really had no plans of starting or keeping up with a blog(so we'll see how this goes) untill I got an email from ISV telling us that it might be the only way to keep up with family and friends while overseas. This is very late notice so it won't be fancy and will probably have a lot of horrid grammer throughout, but here goes. I am leaving for New York in the morning with mamma and Melanie. We are going to explore the Big Apple for a few days before me and Mel both set out on our little adventures and mamma heads home for the summer. I will be leaving this Friday for Croatia where I am a going to be volunteering for a host organization, Suncokret, which is a summer camp in a post war area of Croatia called Gvozd. I am going with a random group of 8 college students and we will be volunteering for 2 weeks then going on a 2 week "adventure tour" around Croatia and Slovenia! It is definetely going to be a summer to remember.
I don't really know what else to put on here, so I guess that's it. I will try to update when I get a chance on the trip. Hopefully we will find somewhere with internet connection at some point:)
